How to use essential oils in aromatherapy?

Besides them, also other people like Chinese, Greeks, Indians and Romans had something like that. In Europe, aromatherapy penetrated with the help of Greeks, which borrowed it from Egyptians. With the teasing of Roman Empire, the utilization of aromatherapy, theoretically, disappeared. But one of the places where it was used continuous was the monastery.

For the reappearance of aromatherapy we can thank Avicenna, a famous philosopher and physician. The term “Aromatherapy” appeared in 1937, in a book of Rene Maurice Gattefosse, the chemist which find out the lavender‘s strength after burning his hand.

Through the years we began to understand that everything in this world have his mission, also we began to use all the nature’s gifts. The Earth, the sky, the nature is polluted. Everything began dirty, but for all that we want to be healthful. That’s why we return to the mother-nature, and we search for her wealth, that we want to use in our recovery.

Aromatherapy was used once by all of us, even we didn’t know it. The bath which we take every night, the body care contains oils, the essential products of aromatherapy.

Like it was told something earlier, the term of aromatherapy appeared thanked to Rene Maurice Gatterfosse, a French chemist.

Today this method of relax is used to take care of the body, to cure the skin and also like a good remedy against depression & stress. It had a long tradition, even in the Bible was wrote that the plants and the flowers must be used for the treatments of sickness.

In our days with the help of scientists discover of properties of plants we can understand better the useful of this oils.

Essential in this art are the essential oils, which are procreated from the plants (their fruits, flowers, seed). Here are used exclusively genuine oils. This oils are very useful as for the body as for the mind.

We, the body & the mind, are striking by harmful substances. We live an unhealthful life! Aromatherapy helps us to revive, to make a balance between mind & body. This mood is very pleasant, by the way.

The unbelievable strengths of aromatherapy make us put questions, how something like that can be as useful, and at the same time as agreeable. This art became for someone a part of lifestyle. It can be used in different places, at home, at the hospital... practically, everywhere.

The main in this art are the oils, which are very intense.

Each of these oils may be used in particular or in combination with other oils, but the most important is to know the effect of everyone and what it can do to our health. The method of oil obtaining is very expensive and it takes time. Even these oils are so difficult to obtain, it worth the effort. The beginning of aromatherapy’s effect is very different, it can takes between 20 minutes and 2 hours. The oils absorption is better when are used in a massage.

The essential oils are classified by “notes”: Top notes – the most stimulating and well smelling, but the smell remains only 3-24 hours; middle notes – the smell remain 2-3 days; base notes – remain for a week.

There are no rules when you do an aromatherapy mixture, it’s your choice.

But there are some of the most famous prescriptions:

 

1. For the Insomnia:

· drops Chamomile

· 2 drops Lavender

· 2 drops Neroli

· 2 drops Majoram


2. For an Energizing Bath:

· 3 drops Rosemary

· 2 drops Lemon

· 2 drops Frankincense

 

3. To relieve Nervousness:

· 6 drops Geranium

· drops Basil

 

4. For a Relaxing and Calming Bath:

· 2 drops Lavender

· 2 drops Bergamot

· 2 drops Cedarwood

 

5. For Aching Feet:

· 3 drops Peppermint

These oils are also useful in massage, it depend only what you want to relax, which part of your body. The oils may relax or energize you, it depend only what oils you use.

As we said essential oils are very concentrate that’s why they should be diluted in carrier oil prior to application to the skin. Otherwise they may produce irritations. There are a variety of these oils like almond oil, sunflower oil, apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, olive oil, soya oil, etc.

The essential oils are used for hair and skin care, in the cure of dandruff and also hydrate the skin.

If you want a natural conditioner, use the next recipe:

 

Light Conditioner:

· 1 tbsp Lanoline

· 1 tbsp Glycerine

· 1 tbsp Almond Oil

· 3 drops Rosemary ( for dark hair ) or Chamomile ( light hair )

· 1 egg

 

Mix the 4 one ingredients, warm it a few time and add the egg. Then, put the conditioner on hair and scalp by making a massage. Warm up the hair with a towel and keep it for 10 minutes.

Also aromatherapy can be used to refresh the air. There are many ways to do it, the most simple is to pour a few drops in your favorite oil. Here are some prescriptions:

 

1. Recipe for a fresh, clean smell in the air:

· 1 drops Caderwood

· 3 drops Pine

· 2 drops Rosemary

 

2. Romance in the air:

· 2 drops Geranium

· 2 drops Orange

· 2 drops Ylang Ylang

 

Aromatherapy is used also for inhaling. It must pour some drops into a tureen with burning water, put a towel over the head and try to inhale this vapors for 5-10 minutes, after clean the face with a napkin (this method of aromatherapy is not recommended for the asthmatics).

Aromatherapy and Infused Oils. The infusion with oils is a different type of aromatherapy, this method doesn’t need seething. It can be used in different ways, like addition in creams, in shampoos and another cosmetics product for body care. The infused oils are not as concentrated as the essential oil that’s why it makes them more safety for us. Infusion is an extraction process that does not involve boiling. To make an infusion follow the next steps. Place dried herbs in a glass container and full it with carrier oils, then place the container in a place where there is a gentile heat. After 24 hours the result will be infused oil.

A lot of people prefer infused oils to essential oils, because they can be made by their selves and aren’t very expensive. Here are some examples of infused oils:

These infused oils hydrate all types of skin and is fine protection against the sun.

Calendula used as treatment for oily skin which comforts it very well.

Arnica infused is used especially for massage. It’s also very good as liquid for arnica cream.

Because of their concentration, essential oils can be very dangerous for our skin, if used straightly on it. Essential Oils can bring about irritation or allergy. That’s why mixing with vegetable carrier oils before used on the skin, is absolutely necessary. The Essential Oils which have in their composition citrus peen oils make the skin like it was sun burnt. Before make the oils, the industrial users must consult the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

Before make the aromatherapy it must respect understand something: if you suffer from some sickness, it must consult a primary physician, and only after that, do it. Aromatherapy must be seen as a method to complete the body and mind care, it’s like an alternative, a surplus, but not like an another kind of medicine treatment.

Never use the essential oils orally, it shouldn’t be eaten or drank. Also be very carefully with aromatherapy if you are pregnant, it’s dangerous. Also it is very dangerous for asthmatics, people sick of epilepsy or heart disease. Before use the aromatherapy, you must consult an expert, especially if you have some health’s problems.
