When the factory of two brothers Rudolf Dassler and Adolf Dassler called Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory) split after the Second World War, the older brother created his own firm called at the beginning Ruda (Rudolf Dassler).

Later on October 1, in 1948 the company got the name Puma Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler. Also that year was created PUMA’s first football shoe PUMA ATOM. It was the maker and the commercial sponsors of a lot of football teams with jerseys and sport clothing.
